Getting the Best Care Right From the Start

Erica Manners RN IBCLC, LACTATION CONSULTANT

The early days with a newborn are crucial, and having skilled lactation support can change everything.

As an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) and a hospital-trained mother–baby nurse with over five years of experience in newborn care and postpartum support, I provide personalized, evidence-based lactation care that goes beyond just feeding. I consider your baby, your recovery, and your unique goals.

By bringing hospital expertise into the home, I help families feel supported, informed, and confident right from the beginning.

Why families choose me:

Hospital-based newborn expertise

My experience as a lactation consultant in a hospital setting allows me to identify feeding concerns early and understand the various factors that can impact the feeding journey.

Individualized, whole-family support

Recognizing that no two babies or families are the same, I take the time to understand your goals, your baby’s needs, and what is realistically sustainable for your family’s lifestyle.

More than just a feeding assessment

Feeding is intricately connected to the bigger picture. Newborn behavior, recovery after birth, milk supply, comfort, positioning, oral function, and confidence. I assess all of these elements together to provide comprehensive support.

Support that meets you where you are

Whether you are preparing before birth, navigating early newborn feeding, overcoming challenges, pumping, combination feeding, or seeking to feel more confident, my lactation support is tailored to your unique journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact me if you cannot find an answer to your question.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Many Niagara families book support because something doesn’t feel right — and that’s enough.

If you’re unsure which service is right for you, you’re welcome to book a free 10-minute Support Planning Call through JaneApp. During this brief phone or video call, we’ll talk through your concerns and decide together whether virtual or in-home lactation or postpartum support would be most helpful.

Support is available in-home or virtually across the Niagara Region and can be booked online through JaneApp. You can book lactation and breastfeeding support during pregnancy, before delivery, or in the first days at home.

If you don’t see a time that works, you’re welcome to join the JaneApp waitlist, and I’ll do my best to accommodate you as availability opens.

Yes. I support breastfeeding, combination feeding, pumping, and bottle-feeding.

I also provide comprehensive newborn and postpartum support, which means care for both your baby and parents. This can include help with newborn behaviour and cues, soothing, early routines, feeding transitions, and emotional support during recovery and adjustment.

Support is individualized and focused on what works best for your family.

Not always — many families do well virtual visits.

That said, in-home visits can be especially helpful in the first few weeks. They allow for hands-on support in the comfort of your own home, where feeding usually happens. Leaving the house with a new baby can feel challenging early on, and in-home care can make support feel easier and calmer during that time.

Families often choose in-home visits because:

  • It’s easier in the early weeks
  • Support is hands-on and practical
  • Care happens in your real everyday feeding space
  • It feels calmer and more private
  • Partners or support people can be involved

No referral is required.

You can book lactation support through the self booking through JaneApp.

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is the global gold standard in lactation care. IBCLCs are highly trained healthcare professionals who specialize in breastfeeding and infant feeding support. Certification requires:

  • 95+ hours of lactation-specific education
  • Over 1,000 hours of supervised clinical lactation practice
  • Successful completion of the international board examination
  • Ongoing continuing education to maintain certification

IBCLCs are trained to assess and support complex feeding challenges, including infant oral function, milk transfer, milk supply concerns, maternal health factors, medically complex infants, and feeding situations that require advanced clinical assessment and collaboration with other healthcare providers
